What Does PTA Do?
The Parent Teacher Association is a critical support system for Burgess-Peterson Academy’s community. In fact, 94% of all money raised by the PTA is reinvested back to BPA staff, students, families, and the larger community. From supporting the student reward t-shirts, uniform donation swap and drive, capital improvement projects for the school, faculty and staff appreciation and supplies, and advocating for policies or special projects, the PTA is focused on ensuring every student and staff member thrives at BPA. PTA drives BPA engagement through popsicle play dates, neighborhood dine-outs, special fundraising events like our Big Little Dance, Penny Wars, and community events like EAV Strut and Wheelbarrow Festival.

PTA Membership
Join the Burgess-Peterson Academy PTA today! Your gift builds our school culture. Donations support community and school events, learning incentives, school improvements, and more. While PTA meetings and events are open to everyone at BPA, members vote to approve our budget, leadership and shape PTA strategy.
For the 2026-2027 school year, individual PTA memberships are $10 for individuals. $5.10 of each purchase goes to the National and Georgia PTAs, so you can take advantage of those benefits as well!

Burgess-Peterson Academy (BPA) is a premier APS public school for the East Atlanta and Reynoldstown
neighborhoods, serving 600+ students between pre-K through fifth grade, including the Department of
Exceptional Education (special education). BPA is an accredited International Baccalaureate World School, and
we strive for equity and inclusion as we implement engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences to develop
action-oriented, life-long thinkers, and globally minded citizens who endeavor to make positive changes in our community and beyond.

Our Signature Events:
- Curriculum Night gives grown ups the opportunity to connect with their child’s teachers, learn
about classroom routines and expectations, and explore the exciting learning experiences
planned for the year. Discover how our International Baccalaureate (IB) approach inspires Sun
Dragons to be curious, compassionate, and confident learners who make a positive impact in our
community and beyond.
- Family Literacy and Math Night is a celebration of learning that brings together our commitment
to the Science of Reading and high-quality mathematics instruction. Families will have the
opportunity to explore how BPA supports students through structured literacy, explicit phonics
instruction, and rigorous math standards, while learning engaging strategies to help children
grow as confident readers and mathematicians.
- Big Little Dance is a new BPA tradition in its second year, bringing families, students, and faculty
together for a fun and memorable evening while raising funds to support the PTA’s ongoing work.
- Culture Fest allows our families and staff to share their family’s culture and heritage with our
school community, an important part of our IB program.
- School Improvements for our educational garden and new tech lab, and to keep our school facility at
its best.
- Field Day brings our students, parents, and educators together to celebrate teamwork. As one
Kindergartener called it, “The best day of my life.”
- Staff Appreciation supports BPA’s exceptional faculty and staff with supplies, as well as thoughtful
items like coffee and snacks on our sunshine cart to show them how appreciated they are.
- Other Activities that benefit all students at BPA.
