About the BPA Library Media Center

The BPA Library Media program strives to promote a culture of literacy by providing a diverse collection of resources that reinforce students’ interests and abilities. Instruction through collaboration with teachers, faculty and the community will give students the opportunity to become life-long learners and effective users of information.

Policies & Procedures

BOOK CHECKOUT

Students in grades 1-5 are allowed to check out 2 books at a time. Books can be kept for 2 weeks and may be renewed for longer if no one else is waiting for that book. Kindergarten students are allowed to check out 1 book at a time and may also keep their book for up to 2 weeks.

LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS

Students will be charged a flat fee of $10 for any books that are lost or damaged. Any book overdue for more than 30 days will be assumed lost. We accept exact cash or checks made payable to Burgess-Peterson Academy. The Library does not accept replacement books.

CLASS VISITS

Classes visit the Library every other week with the exception of Kindergarten who visits weekly. Classes are 45 minutes and may include read-alouds, quiet reading time, learning research skills or learning a new library skill.

INDIVIDUAL VISITS

The Library is open daily from 7:20 am until 2:00 pm. With the help of Ms. Van Laan, the Library Assistant, students are able to stop in throughout the day to check out books. We encourage every student to visit the Library often!

School Library Materials Selection Criteria

The purchasing of Library materials is the responsibility of the School Library Media Specialist whose goal is to build a diverse collection that supports our BPA IB curriculum and fosters a love of reading. All materials purchased for the Library are carefully selected based on professional reviews, age-appropriateness and engaging content. Student, teacher and parent requests are also taken into account in order to reflect the needs and interest of our school community.

The collection undergoes regular assessments to identify and remove outdated, damaged or irrelevant materials.
